Exploded Axon: System Analysis
Manufactured Living
2021 Fall Design Studio V
The main objective of this project is to perceive the existing assisted living facility, Kendal at Ithaca, as a living mechanism that assembles life activities and domesticity into a production line. Due to the expanding population of students as well as senior citizens in Ithaca, it creates productive grounds for social and mental advancement for multiple generations over time.
The former living facility, Kendal at Ithaca, has offered an exclusive and luxurious life, however, is only applicable for a small portion of the elderly population who then are to go through a rigorous application process mimicking an assembly line. To respond to the existing issues, the increasing population of both elderly and student population, and the “undercover” exclusion, the proposal exposes and rebuilds the current facility into a more inclusive and diverse community of a net of different generations.
The exploded axon analysis the overall system and components of the design. The modular housing units are located on top of the track, which are movable based on the best “customized” living options.
The design is a conceptual and theoretical approach to renovate the elderly care facility into a "multi-generational" modular community that moves overtime on a track system based on people's preference.
